Offered for sale are two tuition books for would-be country pickers.
The first is called NASHVILLE GUITAR by Arlen Roth, published by Oak
Publications in 1977. The blurb says: 'A complete instruction guide to
Nashville country guitar. With 19 songs, in standard notation and
tablature, in the styles of Maybelle Carter, Sam McGhee, the Delmore
Brothers, Merle Travis, Clarence White, Doc Watson. Chapters on flat
and finger picking, lead guitar, bluegrass, rockabilly. Special
sections on string bending techniques and pedal steel effects; licks,
riffs, double notes and much more.' Condition is near perfect and
included is a little piece of soft vinyl on which Roth demonstrates
some of the hot licks in the book.
The second is COUNTRY GUITAR STYLES by Mike Ihde published by Hal
Leonard in 1979. This sadly has no blurb for me to copy. The foreword
says it is a book that goes right up to professional standards in
country guitar. Chapters include Country Style Rhythm Guitar, Single
note lead style, Tradic pedal steel style, String bending, Bluegrass
lead, Western Swing and Sound Effects for the country guitarist. This
book is in very good condition and includes a cassette which I haven't
tested out...I'm pretty sure it's been in the box since I got it. The
only issue with this is that the cassette was in an insert on the
front cover and the insert has detached itself, leaving a space on the
cover. Text of the book pretty much perfect.
All in all everything you need to learn country guitar playing. Shame
I failed. Sorry to say I got stuck on Johnny Cash...
