Tomix Precision Railroad Models 485 series Electric Train N-Gauge Railroad Model - 9 car set! [IMAGE] Throughout the world, Japanese makers Kato and Tomix are synonymous with the highest quality N-scale locomotives and rolling stock. This set carries the Kato name well. This is a set that I like quite a bit and indeed I have one of these in my personal collection. This and similar trains like the 183-1000 series have always struck me as the true embodiment of the traditional Japanese limited express trains - they are elegant in real life and the model is quite nice too. For those of you unfamiliar with Tomix - this is the pre-eminant maker of N-gauge items in Japan and is thought of at least as highly as Kato is. To put things in perspective, Tomix items typically sell for 30-50% more than equivalent Kato kits do, as the deail is considered to be superior. [IMAGE] This is a motorized 9-car set of a JNR 485 series limited express train. It is not new, but is in excellent condition. This is a relatively recent release, so the moulding and detail are excellent. The roof detail is particularly good on this train. This train is famous because it was revolutionary in that it was one of the first (the first?) train to be both AC and DC (note the dual pantographs on the pantograph cars). [IMAGE] [IMAGE] here's two scans of stored value "passnet" cards (not included) with pictures of girls dressed up to look like this train. Odd, the Japanese are sometimes! The motor car ran very smoothly in a brief test run. The condition of this whole set in my estimation is 'nearly new.' 7 of the cars come in a standard Tomix storage casket while two come in individual Tomix hardshell cases. The end cars feature directional lighting (white headlights, red taillights). The motor car is super low profile and can not be readily seen through the windows (a good thing). One car is a "green car" (green sha) - a first class car. [IMAGE] Note that this train has JNR markings of the old pre-privatization Japan National Railways. Does this mean that it is old? NO! Because this train is such a classic, it was allowed to keep the JNR markings even to today, well into the "JR" age. I will ship this item from Cambridge, UK. Whether you are in the UK, USA, Europe, Japan, or elsewhere, this train will run with your regular train controller, be it Hornby, Kato, Tomix, Tyco, Atlas, etc. You do NOT need to worry about international voltage issues because your controller will take care of this for you. You can run this train on your N-gauge track just as easily as any other. [IMAGE] Unless otherwise noted, the items I am selling are located with me in Cambridge, UK (please read the note below for more about this). This means: * No VAT. I am not a professional seller and my volume of sales is far too low for me to be obligated to collect VAT from UK or European purchasers (also: no sales tax for USA/North American buyers). * No Import Duty. If you buy from somebody who is shipping from abroad, you may be liable for import duty + VAT on arrival. The catalogues tend to be full of items that haven't been manufactured for sometimes decades! Besides Kato and Tomix, I can also obtain items by MicroAce, GreenMax, and others. I personally am mostly familiar with N-scale items, but can also find items in other scales. There are number of Japanese prototype trains available in HO-gauge--these tend to be quite exquisite though expensive. * I am an enthusiast, like you. I enjoy the trains -- these are far more than stock items to me. I will try to answer all your questions as best I can. Please note: I am located in Cambridge, UK and under normal circumstances your item will ship from the UK. This is regardless what my PayPal address may say. I originally signed up for PayPal when living in the USA and they make it very hard to switch the country that shows up on the display when you move. Worldwide shipping charges: I will happily ship this item worldwide, but please note that the postal rates given are for UK shipping from the UK. As a rule of thumb, shipping to Europe is 1.5 times the UK shipping, and to the USA is 2 times the UK shipping.
