1960s or 70s Art Glass Vase - geometric bottle shape
Last Price: GBP7.50 Ending Date and Time (GMT): 2004-10-30 15:41:30 I've tried it every which way, but I cannot faithfully reproduce the
colour of this vase with the digital camera and software I am using.
It is a really TRUE turquoise, like the gem stone, like the edge of
the Indian Ocean where it meets white sand, etc, etc. Is this helping?
It might be that the way the glass has been blown has led to the
elusive colour that I can't quite capture; there is slip of matt white
glass inside, then a layer of deep turquoise amd then an outer casing
of clear glass. This also means the vase gets gradually lighter in
colour as the neck has been drawn out, so there is a slight ombre
effect.
The vase is 24 cm tall and 8cm across at the widest part of the square
body of the bottle shape. Apart from a couple of bubbles from the time
it was mouth blown and hand made there are no blemishes whatever on
this item, beyond some even wear to the base which suggests it was not
made "yesterday." I am no expert on this era or type of glass, but it
could date back as far as the 1950s. I wouldn't like to hazard a guess
as to its place of origin, but I bet one of you collectors out there
would know, so I've given you lots of big photos to ponder
