An interesting map in it's original uncoloured state, entitled
"FLINTSHIRE". Engraved by J.& C.Walker after R.Creighton for Samuel
Lewis's " A Topographical Dictionary of England " and published
London 1835. The map bears a scale of miles and compass rose and
inset detail of "Part of FLINTSHIRE locally in the County of Salop".
Very fine virtually unmarked condition , blank verso , good margins
all round and eminently suitable for framing. Measuring approx. 10" x
8" ( 260mm x 200mm ) to the clear platemark with margins beyond.
Please note,what appears as shading on the scan is not apparent on the
original and must be due to the scanning process.

Royal Geographical and Geological Society of London, and author of
many books on historical subjects and atlases.

This is an original map, not a copy or reprint, taken directly from:
THE ROYAL ATLAS OF MODERN GEOGRAPHY - Exhibiting in a Series of
Entirely Original and Authentic Maps, the Present Condition of
Geographical Discovery and Research in the Several Countries, Empires,
and States of the World
The atlas has a foreword dedicated to: 'Her Most Gracious Majesty
Queen Victoria' and stating it to be 'By Her Majesty's special
permission respectfully dedicated'.
The atlas was published by William Blackwood and Sons of Edinburgh and
London in 1861, and was perhaps the best atlas created during the
second half of the nineteenth century. Maps are steel plate engraved
and hand-coloured in muted pastels. The paper is thick and of
exceptional quality.
Each map measures approximately 25 inches x 19 inches, the image is
about 22 inches by 18 inches. Distances are stated in miles and
height in feet. Good condition. The reverse of each map is blank.
It is likely that many places detailed on these maps have long
disappeared. An original index is provided for each map and will be
invaluable for research.
