High quality telephoto zoom lens with powerful macro for many Nikon
SLR cameras (see below)
80-200mm tele zoom lens
Constant max. aperture
Multicoated (MC) glass
Solid, metal construction
One touch zoom and focus
Macro close focus to 1:3.4
Fully automatic diaphragm
Full aperture metering
For Nikon AI SLR cameras
For Nikon pre-AI SLRs
Fits many Nikon AF models
With front/rear lens caps
Mint- (almost as new)
Vivitar was one of the top independent lens makers, and this is a high
quality lens with constant maximum aperture, once touch zoom/focus and
high power macro close focusing. It's in great condition, comes with
lens caps and is suitable for Nikon manual focus SLR cameras, plus
many AF and Digital models (see below) with restrictions.
The handy zoom range covers all popular telephoto focal lengths,
including 80-105mm portrait/short telephoto, 135mm medium tele and
200mm telephoto, plus of course all the settings in between.
This makes the lens ideal for great pictures of sports, portraits,
children, wildlife, traveling and many other subjects.
On compatible Nikon and Nikon-mount Digital SLRs (see list below) the
lens is equivalent to a 120-300mm f/4 zoom, giving extra telephoto
power for free!
The zoom/focus ring is very large at 60mm (2.5 inches) wide, with a
rubber grip for secure handling. It barely slips when pointed up or
down, as many one touch lenses do. Normal focusing from infinity down
to 1.5m (5 feet) at all focal lengths, with distances clearly marked
in feet and meters, plus infrared scale.
Macro close focus mode at 80mm, for extra close focusing down,
offering an excellent reproduction ratio of 1:3.4 (between one third
and one quarter life size), filling the frame with a subject around
82x122mm (3.4x5.1 inches). This much better than most zooms, which
only manage 1:4 or 1:5 macro.
This is a manual focus lens, but can also be used with restrictions on
many Nikon AF and digital SLRs (see below).
Constant maximum aperture of f/4, which does not drop to f/4.5 or even
f/5.6, as many lenses do. This gives a brighter image in the
viewfinder, easier focusing and faster shutter speeds in low light at
longer focal lengths, plus easier manual/flash operation.
The lens stops down to f/22 in full stops - just like Nikon lenses.
The aperture ring has the extra ADR (Aperture Direct Readout) scale
for cameras which use this to display apertures in the viewfinder.
Auto diaphragm, full aperture metering with AI cameras and AIS cutout
for complete compatibility with program and shutter priority modes on
suitable manual focus cameras (see below), plus more limited
compatibility with AF and digital models. Meter coupling fork for full
aperture metering with the older, pre-AI cameras too.
Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light, and
increased contrast. Standard 55mm filter thread.
This Vivitar MC Zoom lens is very nicely made, with a metal barrel and
lens mount, smooth controls and clear markings in multiple colours.
It's around 130mm (5 inches) long on the camera at its smallest
settings, and a solid 570g.
An excellent zoom lens for Nikon users!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Condition: Mint- (almost as new)
The lens is in fully working order, and the zoom/focus control works
firmly, and only slips very slightly. The diaphragm stops down
smartly, and is free of oil.
The glass is in excellent condition, with no scratches, bubbles,
fungus, cleaning marks or other problems, beyond tiny specks of dust
and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all.
Cosmetically, it's in very good condition, and there is only the usual
small evidence that it's been used (but not abused), including some
minor surface scratches and scrapes here and there, including minor
paint wear under the aperture ring.
No dents, dings or deep scratches, the filter thread is undamaged, and
overall, it's in good shape!
Includes front and rear lens caps (not original)

Compatibility
This lens will work on the majority of Nikon SLR cameras:
Fits Nikon AI manual focus cameras, including the FM, FM2, FE, FE2,
EL2, FA, FM10, FE10, EM, FG, FG-20, F-301 (N2000), F-601M (N6000),
F2A, F2AS, F3, F3HP, Nikkormat FT3 and the new FM3A.
Automatic diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with manual
or aperture priority automatic exposure modes, plus shutter priority
and/or program operation on the FA, FG and F-301 (N2000). No program
and shutter priority modes or matrix metering on the F-601M (N6000).
The lens also works fully with older (pre-AI) Nikon cameras such as
the F, FT, FTn, F2, F2S, F2SB and Nikkormat FT, FTn, FT2, EL and ELW -
still with auto diaphragm, full aperture metering and aperture
priority auto exposure where appropriate. Also fits the Nikkorex F and
original Nikon-mount Ricoh Singlex.
Works with manual focus and some exposure mode and metering
restrictions on many AF and digital SLRs (usually manual and aperture
priority, no matrix), including the Nikon F-501 (N2020, all exposure
modes OK), F-601 (N6006), F-801 (N8008), F-801s (N8008s), F70, F90,
F90x, F100, F3AF, F4, F5, the digital D1, D1H, D1X and D2H, Kodak NC
2000, NC 2000E, DCS 200, DCS 410, DCS 420, DCS 460, DCS 620, DCS 620x,
DCS 660, DCS 720x, DCS 760, DCS 760M, Horseman Digiflex and Digiflex
II, plus some other early Nikon-mount digital SLR cameras.
On these digital SLRs, the effective focal length is usually increased
because of the smaller image sensor.
The only cameras it won't meter with are some of the budget models
such as the Nikon F-401 (N4004) series, F50 (N50), F55 (N55), F60
(N60), F65 (N65), F75 (N75) and F80 (N80), APS Pronea S and 600i, or
the digital Nikon D70, D100, Kodak DCS 315, DCS 330, DCS Pro 14n, Pro
SLR/n and Fujifilm S-1 and S-2 Pro.
Even with these cameras, the lens will fit, focus and stop down
properly, but you'll have to work out the exposure yourself.
Please contact us if you have any questions about compatibility with
your equipment.

NIKON NIKKOR 80-200mm f4 AIS (MINT for F3/FM2/FE2/FG)
Last Price: GBP151.00 Ending Date and Time (GMT): 2004-10-30 19:06:38 Review:
The Zoom-Nikkor 80-200mm f/4.0 AIS was introduced in August, 1981.
This Ai-S native Nikkor zoom carries with the new revised coupling
system that enables many Nikon SLRs to operate some automatic exposure
control modes. In some ways, it also enables the free use of a
revolutionary AMP Metering (Automatic Multi Pattern Metering System -
concept similar to the current "Matrix Metering", first used in a
Nikon FA SLR camera) that began to emerge during early/mid of '80.
In relation to technicalities, this Nikkor zoom has a lens speed of
f/4.0, one-half stop faster than the older model. The brighter
viewfinder projection that benefits from the speed gain provides easy
pinpoint focusing. In order to accommodate this improvement, the
filter thread of this zoom has been enlarged with a larger diameter of
62mm from 52mm found on previous versions.
The lense still features a single focusing/zooming ring, allowing you
to focus and zoom simultaneously especially when shooting fast-moving
subjects. Similarly, it stops down to f/32 for additional depth of
field control which makes it Ideal for candids and portraits, travel
photography, sports, and for creating zoom blurs. But another main
improvement of this new zoom was its close focusing ability - it now
focuses to a close 1.2m (4 ft.) attributed from adoption of a new 13
elements in 9 groups optical design where this further extends its
picture making capabilities. Another resulting advantage is a good
reproduction ratio be achieved at its closest focusing distance.
80200f4zoom.jpg 923k) Loading ....
The lense has a simplified colour coded depth of field indexes
with a Ai-S customary orange minimum aperture scale (f/32 on the
aperture scale, so does the ADR's f/32), blue for f/22 and a green
f/8.0 imprinted on the lens tube.
The focal length reference were marked in white with a contrasty 80mm,
90mm, 105mm, 135mm and 200mm printed on it all matte black finish
barrel. The silvered-colour lens mounting ring was believed to be
using Aluminum alloy instead of chrome, probably aimed to bring its
overall weight down.

Comparing optical consturction of two versions in 80-200mm f/4.5
and Ai-S f/4.0
The optical arrangement of this famed MF Nikkor zoom lense was known
to have been evolved three rounds in its entire product cycle with
earlier ones carries a 15 elements in 10 groups design(1969~1977) -
followed by a 12 elements in 9 groups (1979~1981) version and finally,
the 13 elements in 9 groups (1981~1990) design adopted in this
Ai-S-only zoom. What I am trying to emphasize here is, this Nikkor
zoom has quite a colourful and respectable history throughout its lens
development, with refinement made physically in lens features as well
as internally involving its various optical formulas used. I know
there are quite a number of dividing opinions out there when it comes
to this Nikkor Zoom upgrade. From the perspective of a consumer, I
would simply conclude (but I don't intend to influence anyone's
perception) this is also a great zoom lense. With overall useful focal
lengths that offers from medium to full 4X telephoto, supreme built
quality, excellent handling and compatibility with new and old Nikon
bodies while optically, it is still rated as a more than
above-average-performer which can deliver superb definition across its
entire zoom range. Depending on individual expectations, requirements
and subject topics that you intend to handle in your photography - it
can be an excellent companion lens such as for traveling and/or
assignments indoor or on locations especially takes into consideration
its overall high score in its portability and optical performance
provides. Although I am more inclined towards the use of prime lenses
but this zoom is always in list of consideration whenever I intend to
travel. I think, this speaks all.
This MF Nikkor Ai-S zoom has remained in production until 1990 despite
some of the user's attention have diverted to another faster speed MF
Zoom-Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8s ED that introduced soon after this zoom
lense and also with the emergence of autofocus range of Nikon SLRs and
AF Nikkor lenses.
